UPCA Faces Heat Over Alleged Irregularities; Calls for Dissolution and Ban on UPT20–2025
Lucknow/Gorakhpur (RNI) The Uttar Pradesh Cricket Association (UPCA – registered as a company) is under severe scrutiny following fresh complaints of financial irregularities, misuse of authority, and betrayal of players’ trust. Separate representations have been filed with the Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister and with the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), urging strict action against UPCA, including its dissolution and de-affiliation.
In a petition addressed to Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, complainant Upendra Yadav highlighted findings of the Registrar of Companies (ROC) that exposed serious financial and administrative violations by UPCA. Based on these findings, nine criminal cases were filed before the Chief Judicial Magistrate, Kanpur. The Allahabad High Court (Lucknow Bench) has already directed the state government to ensure that “Uttar Pradesh” is removed from UPCA’s name and that steps be initiated within eight weeks through the ROC to wind up the company.
The complaint further alleged a land scam in Etawah, where UPCA reportedly showed ₹3.3 crore expenditure on a proposed cricket academy and stadium project, which never materialized. It also accused UPCA of undermining local talent by including 14 Railway players in the ongoing UPT20–2025 league without securing mandatory No Objection Certificates (NOCs), thereby depriving Uttar Pradesh’s young cricketers of valuable opportunities.
A separate complaint to the BCCI Ombudsman and top officials demanded an immediate ban on UPT20–2025 and the de-affiliation of UPCA. It alleged that the illegal inclusion of 14 Railway players was a “calculated fraud” that violated BCCI rules, trampled on the rights of Uttar Pradesh players, and mocked the very purpose of the UPT20, which was intended to nurture homegrown talent. The complainant warned that if such practices were allowed to continue, they would permanently damage the credibility of Indian cricket and destroy the faith of thousands of aspiring cricketers.
The petitions urged the state government and BCCI to act decisively, investigate the financial irregularities and alleged land scam, dissolve UPCA as directed by the High Court, suspend its BCCI membership, and set up a transparent and fair system for cricket governance in Uttar Pradesh.
Both the state government and BCCI are yet to issue an official response to the complaints, but pressure is mounting for urgent intervention to safeguard the integrity of the sport and protect the interests of players in Uttar Pradesh.
