ARA------------------------The rising water level of the Ganga river in the Diara area of Bhojpur district has increased the concern of the farmers. Many villages of Shahpur block are facing the threat of floods, due to which crops grown in thousands of acres are likely to be destroyed.
The embankment built for protection from floods from Buxar to Koilwar along the banks of the Ganga river is an important infrastructure for the people of the Diara region. It provides shelter to hundreds of displaced families during each flood season. But, ironically, for almost 40 years, an incomplete embankment near Marchia Dera village in Shahpur block of Bhojpur district not only poses a threat to the local residents but also seriously affects the agricultural economy of the area. Every flood season, the surging waters of the Ganges spill through this breach into nearly 22,000 acres of agricultural land, destroying crops worth crores of rupees.
The incomplete embankment near Marchia Dera under Lalu Ke Dera Panchayat remains a serious challenge for the farmers and residents of the Diara region, who live in fear of floods every year and lose their livelihoods. This incomplete embankment, stuck for nearly 40 years in the name of sluice gate, has caused immense suffering to the local communities. Despite the severe floods in the years 2003, 2013, 2016, 2019,2021 and 2024, the public representatives have ignored this important issue. Due to which the basic problem is still unresolved.
Academician Mukteshwar Mishra said that taking concrete steps in this direction is important not only for the farmers and their families, but also for the development of the entire region. The concerned authorities should take this problem seriously and take necessary steps to complete the construction of the sluice gate, so that local communities can get protection from floods.
