ARA----------------------------The Federation of Universities Teachers Associations of Bihar (FUTAB) has welcomed the concern expressed by the Chancellor in the Vice Chancellors' meeting for improving the functioning of the universities and the advice to the Vice Chancellors to behave in accordance with the dignity of their chair.
Kanhaiya Bahadur Sinha, Executive President and Sanjay Kumar Singh MLC, General Secretary, Futab, in a statement said that the decision to form a committee of three VCs at the state level and the arrangement of all Vice Chancellors to present the problems of their respective universities before the committee for resolving them is beyond practicality.
A committee of equal post holders cannot be expected to be approached by their counterparts with the problems of their university. The respect factor cannot be ignored, besides, it is not clear who will solve the problem related to the university run by the members of the committee.
He suggested that to have a practical and meaningful approach, all Vice Chancellors should be members of the Committee, the senior Vice Chancellor present in the meeting should chair it and the Committee should be made compulsory to meet every two months. An officer of Raj Bhavan should be appointed to act as Secretary, who will be authorised to prepare the agenda and convene meetings to discuss the problems communicated in advance by the Vice Chancellors.
He further said that teachers and staff associations should also be authorised to approach the Committee so that the tendency of universities to adopt different criteria on the same subjects is stopped. Uniformity will also reduce judicial cases. He requested the Chancellor to reconsider the proposal.
