PUMPKIN CULTIVATION IS BRINGING A BIG CHANGE IN THE LIVES OF FARMERS OF BHOJPUR

ARA-------------------------Farmers of Dhusriya village under Barhara block of Bhojpur district are doing good farming of gourd vegetable with the help of innovation, different from traditional farming.

Not only are they earning well from this, but people of nearby villages are also getting inspired by them to cultivate it. Farmers say that gourd (pumpkin) plants are ready in four months and start yielding crops.

Lorik Paswan, the farmer who started gourd cultivation first in the village, said that we have been doing vegetable farming for about ten years. This year, gourd has been cultivated in four bighas.

In the cultivation of gourd in four bighas, the expenses including ploughing, sowing and irrigation have come to about 80 thousand rupees. During marriage, income of up to four lakh rupees has been made.

Seeing them, other farmers also cultivated it and the pumpkin crop became the identity of the village. Farmers say that gourd vegetable is supplied in Ara, Chhapra and Kayamnagar market. Apart from this, many traders come to our farms and buy gourd. Every two days, about six hundred to eight hundred gourds come out from four bigha field. Good price is received during the wedding season. During this time, the income is also good. The farmer said that if you want to cultivate vegetables, then do not do it on a small scale but on a large scale, then there will be no problem in getting the market. He says that only livelihood can be done from crops like paddy, wheat, maize etc. Vegetable farming is suitable for good income. When asked about government subsidy, he said that if one gets involved in the government subsidy, the sowing season passes. Late sowing has a bad effect on the income.
