Buxar police achieved a major success in a high-profile operation late Tuesday night. Acting on a tip-off received during patrolling, they attempted to stop a suspicious white Ertiga car (BR 01 HK 9819) near the Bharauli roundabout, but the occupants fled upon seeing the police. The police team acted swiftly and apprehended three people on the spot, while two accused managed to escape taking advantage of the darkness and the crowd.

The checking operation was led by Sub-Inspector Rohit Kumar, in-charge of the roundabout checkpost, and Constable Rocky Kumar. As soon as the suspicious car stopped, the police began a search, during which a country-made pistol was recovered from under the middle seat of the car. Based on the strong smell of alcohol emanating from the accused, a breathalyzer test was conducted, which confirmed alcohol consumption. The arrested accused have been identified as Ravi Rai (33) and Birendra Kumar Singh (28), residents of Pandeypatti, Muffasil police station, and Mohammad Aneesh Ansari (35), resident of Nai Bazaar, Nagar police station.

Abhay Kumar Gond and Guddu Chauhan managed to escape from the spot, and the police are continuously conducting raids to apprehend them. The weapon, vehicle, and other items have been duly seized by the police. Local residents Ritu Kumar and Kanhaiya Kumar, who were present throughout the operation, were made independent witnesses. The police have registered an FIR in the case under the Arms Act and the Prohibition Act and have intensified further action. The late-night operation has once again raised questions about the network of liquor and arms smuggling in the area.
