PM WILL VISIT CHINA FIRST TIME AFTER GALWAN CLASH

DELHI----------------------PM Modi and Chinese President Jinping went to Russia to attend the BRICS summit in 2024. The two leaders met in the city of Kazan there.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi will visit China to attend the SCO summit. The visit will take place on 31 August and 1 September. This will be Modi's first visit to China after the India-China military clash in the Galwan Valley in 2020.

Modi had earlier visited there in 2018. This will be PM Modi's sixth visit to China as Prime Minister, which is the most visits to China by any Indian PM in 70 years.

Before China, PM Modi will reach Japan on August 30. Here he will participate in the India-Japan summit.

Last month, Foreign Minister S. Jaishankar visited China, where he met President Xi Jinping and Foreign Minister Wang Yi.

Jaishankar talked about issues such as sharing water resources data, trade sanctions, reducing tensions on the LAC and taking a tough stand against terrorism and extremism. According to media reports, this meeting prepared the roadmap for Modi's visit to China.

S Jaishankar met Chinese President Xi Jinping last month and informed him about the progress made in India-China relations.

Modi and Jinping last met in October 2024 during the BRICS Summit in Kazan, Russia. During this, bilateral talks were also held between the two.

In the 50-minute conversation, PM Modi had said that 'Maintaining peace and stability on the border should be our priority. Mutual trust, mutual respect and mutual sensitivity should remain the foundation of our relations.

This visit of PM Modi to China is taking place at a time when the whole world is struggling with the tariff policies of US President Trump. Trump has announced to impose 25% tariff on India due to purchase of Russian oil and weapons.

India is the largest buyer of Russian oil in the world after China. India buys 17.8 lakh barrels of crude oil from Russia every day.

Xi Jinping last visited India in 2019. Then the two leaders met in Mahabalipuram, Tamil Nadu. This visit was an important step towards strengthening India-China relations and managing mutual differences.

The Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) is a regional international organization established in 2001 by China, Russia, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan and Uzbekistan. Later India and Pakistan joined it in 2017. Iran also became its member in 2023.

The objective of the SCO is to enhance security, economic and political cooperation among member countries. The organization formulates a common strategy on issues such as terrorism, extremism, drug trafficking and cybercrime.
