PATNA----------------------------"The Patna High Court has quashed the corruption FIR against AIG Prashant Kumar. The SVU has decided to file a Special Leave Petition (SLP) in the Supreme Court against the order."

The court of Justice Purnendu Singh of the Patna High Court has quashed the FIR registered against Prashant Kumar, the then Assistant Inspector General (AIG) of Registration of Tirhut Division, Muzaffarpur. This case is considered quite significant from the perspective of corruption investigations in Bihar. The Special Vigilance Unit (SVU) has expressed dissatisfaction with this order of the High Court and has decided to file a Special Leave Petition (SLP) in the Supreme Court.

According to the information, this is the second major incident in the last ten days in which the High Court has quashed an FIR registered against corrupt officials. Earlier, the FIR registered against Bihar Administrative Service officer Shweta Mishra was also quashed by the High Court on December 5, 2025. These cases have sparked a new debate on the ongoing investigations against corruption in Bihar and the functioning of the investigating agencies.

According to information from the SVU, the FIR against AIG Prashant Kumar was registered in November 2022. During the investigation, it was found that he possessed assets worth Rs 2.03 crore disproportionate to his income. In light of this, the SVU had initiated investigation and inquiry into the allegations of corruption against him. The investigation was ongoing to understand the source of the movable and immovable properties acquired by him.

However, on December 8, 2025, the High Court quashed the FIR. The SVU has termed this an unsatisfactory step and said that the investigation was still at a logical and conclusive stage. The agency believes that quashing the FIR may hinder the investigation and delay bringing the complete truth of the matter to light. For this reason, the SVU has decided to file an SLP in the Supreme Court.

The cases of AIG Prashant Kumar and Shweta Mishra have made it clear that both the courts and the investigating agencies are playing a crucial role in the proceedings against corruption in Bihar. This case will not only set a precedent for investigating the conduct of government officials but will also serve as a warning to other officials. The Special Vigilance Unit (SVU) says it will file a Special Leave Petition (SLP) in the Supreme Court against the High Court's order. Their objective is to ensure that the investigation is completed in a completely fair and independent manner. The court's order also underscores the importance of the investigative and legal processes.

This balance between anti-corruption agencies and the courts is crucial in Bihar. Such cases increase public confidence in the judicial process and bring transparency to government functioning. Even after the quashing of AIG Prashant Kumar's FIR, the investigating agencies will continue their work and verify the source of assets and other aspects of the investigation. This incident has highlighted the importance of corruption investigations in Bihar and the complexities of the judicial process. It remains to be seen what the outcome of the SLP filed by the SVU in the Supreme Court will be and what impact it will have on the investigation and judicial proceedings in corruption cases.
