PATNA--------------------------Before Bihar elections 2025, Chief Minister Nitish Kumar has played another political master stroke. This master stroke is going to be a boon for landless and sharecroppers. Along with this, the Nitish government is also going to start a door-to-door jamabandi campaign to resolve land related matters and settle complaints. With this decision of the Nitish government, the hope of getting land for 1 crore 30 lakh landless families in the state has once again been awakened. Also, this step will not only solve land disputes, but can also affect the electoral equations. A special revenue mahabhiyan will start from August 16 to September 20 across the state. Under this campaign, applications will be taken for correction of errors in digitized jamabandi, making the missed jamabandis online, inheritance transfer and partition transfer of joint properties. The Nitish government has also expedited the process of allocating government land to landless families under Abhiyan Basera-II, launched in 2024 before the Bihar elections. The first phase of this campaign started in 2014, but it was stalled due to bureaucracy and lack of funds. Now, it is being restarted before the 2025 elections. Under this, land will be allotted to 1.3 lakh landless families, whose survey was done in 2014. Also, the process of updating jamabandi and submitting applications for complaints by going door to door has been started. Revenue officials have been instructed to verify the data on the government app and submit the information at the block-level. More than 70% of Bihar's population is rural and more than 60% of the farmers are landless or sharecroppers. The campaign specifically targets the Extremely Backward Classes (EBC), Scheduled Castes (SC), and Scheduled Tribes (ST) communities, which account for 85% of the state's population. JDU said, 'This shows CM Nitish's commitment to the poor.' In the 2020 elections, JDU won only 43 seats, while BJP won 74 seats. Through this campaign, Nitish is trying to re-strengthen his rural and Dalit vote bank.
