23-JULY-ENG 6

RAJIV NAYAN AGRAWAL

ARA--------------------------Ara MP Sudama Prasad raised the issue of erosion in Jawainiya village of Shahpur and flood in the district in the monsoon session of Lok Sabha.

He said that every year in Bhojpur district, the water of Ganga causes heavy destruction in the villages along the banks in July, August. This time, dozens of villages including Jawainiya, Gangapur, Damodarpur, Chhotki Bahoranpur, Sarangpur, Suremanpur, Laksutola, Laludera of Shahpur block, Manirai ka Tola, Achraj Rai ka Tola of Ara Mufassil block, Manjhauli, Khwaspur, Naknam Tola, Nathmalpur of Barhara block, Gyanpur of Koilwar block are facing terrible destruction and the erosion of Ganga is still continuing in full swing. The people of Jawainiya village of Shahpur block are facing terrible destruction. Last year, 64 houses including a temple in Jawainiya were submerged in Ganga, while this year so far more than two dozen houses including Hanuman temple, Govardhan hill have been submerged in Ganga and the primary school is on the verge of erosion. Paddy plantation has been completely ruined, while transportation is badly affected. Farming, studies, treatment, business, everything is closed. So far, Gupteshwar Kamkar of Damodarpur, students Sudhanshu Thakur and Mohit Lal of Ratanpur and Basudev Singh of Ekouna have died due to drowning in the flood in Bhojpur district. 18 schools are closed and paddy plantation worth crores of rupees has been destroyed.

Similarly, due to the rise in water in the Son river in Bhojpur district, the danger of erosion has increased in English Tola of Tarari, Charu village Bihta, Anhari of Sahar, Fatehpur Mathia, Lodipur, Avagila, Sahar and Semaria, Haripur of Koilwar.

In the name of flood prevention, the central and state governments do a formality and show-off. In view of the prevention of floods in the Ganga and Son rivers and the damage caused by floods, I demand from the government through the House that

1. A permanent concrete dam should be built half a kilometer before the village and half a kilometer after the village on the banks of the Ganga river.

2. The families of those whose houses got submerged in the Ganga or who died due to drowning in the flood should be given a compensation of Rs 25 lakh each.

3. I demand community kitchens running 24 hours a day in flood-affected villages, fodder for animals, mobile hospitals, clean drinking water, adequate boats for transportation, mobile toilets, adequate light and mobile charging points, milk for children, continuous health check-up of pregnant women, toll-free number, free transport facility to bus stands and railway stations for young men and women appearing in competitive examinations.
