ARA------------------------MP Pappu Yadav said that when the government and administration have become mute spectators, it is a social responsibility to provide immediate relief to the victims. He provided financial assistance of Rs 20,000 each to more than two dozen erosion-affected families, as well as foil, food items and necessary domestic help.
Pappu Yadav blamed the sand mafia active in the area for this disaster and alleged that these mafias have been doing illegal mining for years in connivance with leaders and officials, due to which the river's flow turned towards the village and this disaster occurred. He demanded criminal investigation and strict punishment on all of them.
The MP demanded that those whose houses were cut should be given a compensation of at least ₹5 lakh, and the government should also ensure three months' ration - 5 quintals of rice, 1 quintal of flour and firewood per family. He said that 400 to 500 acres of crops and the agricultural economy of many panchayats have been destroyed in this disaster.
He put both the ruling party and the opposition in the dock and said that if both had come here and seen the condition of the victims, then perhaps the sentiments would have awakened. He said that nothing will happen by just writing letters, the government and the leaders will have to face the ground reality.
Pappu Yadav clarified that this disaster is not the result of any particular caste but of mafia nexus and administrative corruption. He said that sand and liquor mafias come from all castes and action should be taken against them equally.
The MP said that he himself is ready to run a relief camp for three months and will help all the affected families as much as possible. He called upon the opposition to sit on dharna to save this area and if the government remained silent, he himself would lead the movement. The government does not have sensitivity, we do not have resources but still we are with the people. This is a fight for humanity, not politics.
