PATNA--------------------------The BSP, which won only one seat in the 2025 Bihar Assembly elections, has resigned from its post and membership. This move could prove to be a major setback for the party.
Mayawati's Bahujan Samaj Party, which won only one seat in the 2025 Bihar Assembly elections, has suffered a major setback. The party's Bihar in-charge, Anil Kumar, has resigned from his post and primary membership.
In his resignation letter, Anil Kumar cited personal reasons and thanked BSP chief Mayawati and the party leadership for the affection, support, and guidance he received during his tenure.
A day before Anil Kumar's resignation, a high-level review meeting of the party's performance in the Bihar elections was held in the auditorium of the Maharaja Complex in Patna. BSP supremo Mayawati's nephew and national coordinator, Akash Anand, Rajya Sabha member Ramji Gautam, and other senior leaders were present at the meeting.
The BSP's position in the recent assembly elections was already weak. The party won only one seat while contesting the election alone. BSP candidate Satish Yadav defeated the BJP candidate from Ramgarh in Kaimur district by a margin of just 30 votes. Now, Anil Kumar's resignation has the party fearing the loss of its sole MLA.
Last Wednesday, during a review meeting in Patna, Anil Kumar stated that many inducements were being offered to break the BSP's lone MLA, but his MLAs would not break. Despite this statement, a new challenge now confronts the party leadership.
