Late Friday evening, the Koran Sarai police apprehended Michael Akash, the ringleader of the notorious Googly gang from Odisha, immediately after he committed a snatching incident. The vigilance of the jewelry shop owner and the swift action of the Dial 112 police team foiled the gang's entire plan.

According to the information, Madan Prasad Verma, a jeweler in the Koran Sarai market, was closing his shop. At that moment, Michael seized the opportunity and snatched a bag containing Rs. 12,000 in cash and documents from the counter and tried to flee. His accomplice was waiting outside the shop on a Hornet motorcycle with the engine running. While getting on the bike, Michael suddenly slipped and fell to the ground. The shopkeeper raised an alarm and chased him, and the Dial-112 police team present at the spot immediately apprehended the accused. His accomplice managed to escape on the motorcycle at high speed.

During police interrogation, it was revealed that the arrested youth was not an ordinary petty thief but Michael Akash, a notorious criminal from Odisha, against whom more than six serious cases are registered in Odisha, Bengal, and Jharkhand. Michael revealed that the gang members would survey the area during the day under the pretext of selling imitation gold jewelry and would commit snatching incidents whenever they got an opportunity. The gang had also rented a room in Nawanagar, establishing their presence there as street vendors. Based on his information, the police recovered two motorcycles and imitation gold jewelry from the gang's hideout. Station House Officer Madhuri Kumari said that raids have been intensified to arrest the absconding accomplices. The police are working to uncover the gang's network.
