According to reports, the dispute began on the evening of November 8th when some people alleged that Surendra Paswan's family did not vote for the "three star" election symbol. Enraged by this, the crowd hurled abuses using casteist slurs, and the situation quickly escalated into a physical altercation. According to the FIR filed, the accused attacked with sticks and rods, severely injuring Surendra Paswan.
Due to his critical condition, he was referred to Patna, where he underwent treatment for nearly a week. Upon receiving news of his death on Wednesday, tension and anger descended on the village.
17 named, three arrested, raids underway to find the remaining suspects
Following the incident, the deceased's daughter-in-law filed a named FIR against 17 people, including Satyendra Mahato, Rajan Kumar, and Mithilesh Kumar. Police took immediate action and arrested three of the accused and sent them to jail. Now, with the death, the matter has become even more serious. Krishnabrahma Police Station Head Sandeep Kumar Ram stated that the body has been sent for post-mortem examination and raids are being conducted to arrest the absconding accused. He stated that law and order will not be allowed to deteriorate under any circumstances.
Possibility of increasing the number of charges in the case after the death
Locals say that this incident was not merely a dispute, but a planned attack. Following Surendra Paswan's death, the number of charges in the FIR is expected to be increased. Meanwhile, the police, considering the entire matter sensitive, are maintaining extra vigilance in the village. The incident has once again exposed the dangerous nature of electoral rivalry in rural areas.
RTI activist wrote a letter to the Additional Chief Home Secretary. It is worth noting that Dumraon RTI activist Ramji Singh had written a letter to the Additional Chief Secretary of the Home Department of the Bihar government, demanding the immediate arrest of the absconding accused in the murderous attack on Surendra Paswan, a member of the Scheduled Caste community of Sowan, due to electoral rivalry. In the letter to the Additional Chief Home Secretary, he noted that the condition of the injured person is critical due to the violence caused by the electoral rivalry.
