HOME MISTRY RELEASED LIST OF THE OFFICIALS OF MEDAL RECIPIENTS
The Home Ministry has released the official list of medal recipients for Police, Fire Services, Home Guards and Civil Defence, and Correctional Services on the occasion of Independence Day. These honors include gallantry awards, President's Medal for Distinguished Service and Meritorious Service Medal. According to the list released by the Union Home Ministry, a total of 1,090 medals will be awarded this year, including 233 gallantry medals, 99 President's Medal for Distinguished Service and 758 Meritorious Service Medals. In the police category, 226 officers and personnel have been selected for gallantry medals, 89 will be awarded the President's Medal for Distinguished Service and 635 will be awarded the Meritorious Service Medal.
DELHI (RNI) The Home Ministry has released the official list of medal recipients for Police, Fire Services, Home Guards and Civil Defence, and Correctional Services on the occasion of Independence Day. These honors include gallantry awards, President's Medal for Distinguished Service and Meritorious Service Medal. According to the list released by the Union Home Ministry, a total of 1,090 medals will be awarded this year, including 233 gallantry medals, 99 President's Medal for Distinguished Service and 758 Meritorious Service Medals. In the police category, 226 officers and personnel have been selected for gallantry medals, 89 will be awarded the President's Medal for Distinguished Service and 635 will be awarded the Meritorious Service Medal.
The highest number of gallantry medals have been given to personnel of Jammu and Kashmir, followed by Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) and Border Security Force (BSF) personnel. 62 awards have been announced for fire services, including six gallantry medals, 5 President's Medal for Distinguished Service and 51 Meritorious Service Medals. In the Home Guards and Civil Defence category, the honours will include one Gallantry Medal, three President's Medals for Distinguished Service and 41 Meritorious Service Medals. For correctional services, two officers will be awarded the President's Medal for Distinguished Service while 31 will be awarded the Meritorious Service Medal.
Gallantry medals are awarded to personnel who have displayed exceptional courage and valour while protecting life and property, preventing crime or apprehending criminals. This includes a risk assessment taking into account the responsibilities and duties of the officer concerned. The 233 gallantry medals awarded this time include 226 policemen, 6 fire service personnel and one home guard. Of these gallantry awards, 152 are from Jammu and Kashmir region, 54 from Left Wing Extremism affected areas, 3 from Northeast India and 24 from other regions for their heroic acts. Talking about service medals, the President's Distinguished Service Medal is given to those personnel whose service record has been particularly noteworthy, while the Commendable Service Medal is awarded for valuable service involving resourcefulness and dedication to duty. Out of the 99 Distinguished Service Medals given this year, 89 have been awarded to the Police Service, 5 to the Fire Service, 3 to Home Guard and Civil Defence and 2 to the Correctional Service personnel. Whereas, out of the 758 Commendable Service Medals, 635 have been awarded to the Police Service, 51 to the Fire Service, 41 to Home Guard and Civil Defence and 31 to the Correctional Service personnel.
