ARA--------------------------With the activation of monsoon in Bihar, the water level of river Ganga is also increasing rapidly. Due to which there is a threat of flood in Patna, Buxar and Bhagalpur. According to the report of Central Water Commission and Meteorological Center, Patna on 14 July 2025, the Ganga river is flowing 2.48 meters below the danger mark (50.45 meters) at Digha Ghat in Patna (47.97 meters) and 1.61 meters below the danger mark (48.60 meters) at Gandhi Ghat (46.99 meters). In Buxar, the Ganga is 1.59 meters below the warning level (59.32 meters) (57.73 meters). Whereas in Bhagalpur it was recorded 3.12 meters below the danger mark (33.68 meters) (30.56 meters). Water has now started entering the low-lying areas of Patna, Danapur, Pandarak and Fatuha, which has increased the concern among the local people. Motor pumps are being used to divert water into the Ganga through the Digha Canal. The steps of the Ganga Ghats in Buxar have submerged and the water level of the tributary river Karmanasha is also rising. In Bhagalpur, the Ganga is rising at a speed of 1 centimeter every hour. Due to which the risk of flood has increased in areas like Sultanganj, Nathnagar and Navgachhiya.

On the other hand, the Water Resources Department has issued an alert due to rising water level in the tributaries of the Ganga, Son, Gandak and Kosi. 1.25 lakh cusecs of water has been released from the Bansagar Dam of Madhya Pradesh. Which is reaching the Ganga through the Son River. Rain in the hilly areas of Uttarakhand and Uttar Pradesh has also increased the water level of the Ganga. According to the WRD, the water level may increase further for the next 2-3 days.

The spell of rain will continue in Patna till Thursday, due to which the water level may increase further. There is an alert of very heavy rain in Gaya, Nawada and Jamui today. While there is a warning of heavy rain and thunderstorm in Patna, Begusarai, Munger and Bhagalpur. More than 8 deaths have occurred due to lightning in the last 48 hours, due to which people have been advised not to stay in open fields and under trees. The Bihar government has instructed the district administrations to remain alert and make arrangements for relief material, boats and community kitchens.
