BHABHUA----------------------------In a tragic road accident late evening in Dhangarha village under Saraiya Panchayat in the Bhagwanpur block area of the district, former Sarpanch of Saraiya Panchayat, Ramesh Kushwaha, died on the spot. Sunny Kumar Pal, approximately 21 years old, son of Kunwar Pal, resident of Mohanpur, was seriously injured while riding the other bike. After receiving first aid locally, doctors referred Sunny to Varanasi due to his critical condition.
According to eyewitnesses, both bikes were speeding and collided head-on at a turn. The impact was so severe that both bikes were shattered. Immediately after the accident, locals picked up the two injured from the road and rushed them to the hospital, but former Sarpanch Ramesh Kushwaha was declared dead by doctors.
Upon receiving information about the incident, police from Bhagwanpur police station arrived at the scene, took the body into custody, and after the necessary Panchnama, sent it to Bhabhua Sadar Hospital, where the body was handed over to the family after the post-mortem. Upon receiving the news of the deceased's death, there was chaos in the village. The family members are inconsolable.
Local villagers stated that road accidents occur regularly in this area. Speeding vehicles, the use of illegal lights, and the increasing number of underage drivers are the main causes of accidents. Despite this, no concrete action is being taken by the Transport Department or the local administration. Villagers stated that the deployment of traffic police on the road is negligible, leading to drivers driving at reckless speeds.
People have demanded that the administration install speed breakers on this route, take action against overspeeding vehicles, and strictly prohibit minors from driving. Additionally, those using illegal LED lights or horns with high-bright lights on their bikes should be fined.
Villagers said that Ramesh Kushwaha was a social worker and was always active in development work in the Panchayat area. His sudden death has plunged the entire area into mourning.
Such frequent accidents raise serious questions about the state of road safety in Bihar. Every day, someone in some village or the other loses their life on the road, yet neither the government nor the transport department is taking concrete steps to address this issue.
