PATNA-------------------------The big action of the Economic Offenses Unit (EOU) against corruption in Bihar has created a stir. The EOU team raided the house of Vinod Kumar Rai, Superintendent Engineer of Rural Works Department in Agamkuan area of Patna on Friday. What happened during this shocked everyone. To escape from the EOU officials, the engineer's wife set fire to notes worth lakhs of rupees, which blocked all the drains of the house.
On Wednesday, the EOU team started searching Vinod Kumar Rai's house on the information of illegal property acquired through corruption. However, the team was not allowed to enter the house for hours. Vinod Rai's wife closed the door and the team had to wait outside. Finally, when the team entered the house at 5:20 am, they were shocked.
Officials said that Rs 52 lakh in cash was recovered from the house during the search. The surprising thing in this was that a large part of the notes was burnt. Apart from this, jewelry worth lakhs of rupees and expensive watches have also been found.
According to sources, to escape from the EOU team, the engineer's wife had hidden notes worth lakhs of rupees in the toilet, water tank and in the kitchen pipes. When she felt that she would be caught, she set the notes on fire. In this chaos, pieces of burnt notes got stuck in all the drains of the house, causing them to get clogged.
The EOU called the FSL (Forensic Science Lab) team at the spot so that the burnt notes could be examined. Apart from this, the Municipal Corporation team was also called so that the clogged drains could be cleaned and the burnt notes could be taken out.
The EOU said that during the search, many incriminating documents have also been seized, which may be related to illegal transactions and benami properties. The accused engineer, who is currently posted in Madhubani district, has been arrested and is being questioned.
The Economic Offences Unit has made it clear that their action against corrupt officials will continue and no one will be spared. This incident has created a stir in government departments and the general public is appreciating this strict action of the EOU. People say that only such actions will bring transparency in the government system.
