EO CANCELS NGO’S CONTRACT, BLACKLISTS IT FOR THREE YEARS

ARA--------------------------Major action has been taken against the non-governmental organization (NGO) "Pratap Seva Sankalp Govind Phoolkan, Muzaffarpur's institution" which is responsible for cleanliness in Shahpur Nagar Panchayat. Due to serious negligence in work, non-payment of wages to laborers and many other irregularities, Executive Officer (EO) Neshat Alam has canceled the contract with the organization with immediate effect. Along with this, the NGO has been blacklisted for the next three years.

The Executive Officer has clarified that till the NGO does not pay the daily wages, Employee Provident Fund (EPF) and Employee State Insurance (ESI) of all the sanitation workers in full, none of its bills will be paid. From July 1, no work will be done by the NGO in the Nagar Panchayat.

Clear instructions were given to the NGO that the salary of all the sanitation workers should be sent directly to their bank accounts through RTGS or NEFT. Apart from this, they were asked to deposit their EPF and ESI amount and submit its proof in the office, which the NGO did not follow.

During surprise inspections, sanitation workers were often found in less numbers. The NGO was constantly violating the instructions.

Under the contract, the NGO was also responsible for disposing of the garbage coming out of the city, but this work was not being done. Due to this, heaps of garbage were piled up at many places in the Nagar Panchayat area.

Despite the contract having a provision for cleaning the drains before the monsoon, this work was not done by the NGO, due to which the office had to get this work done itself.

This matter became more serious when a citizen of the Nagar Panchayat lodged a complaint against the arbitrariness of the NGO with the Principal Secretary of the Urban Development and Housing Department and the Public Grievance Redressal Office in Patna. On the basis of all these complaints and investigation, the Executive Officer has taken this strict step.
