PATNA-----------------------Chief Minister Nitish Kumar has made an important announcement to make the education system in Bihar more robust and inclusive. He said that since the formation of the government in November 2005, the state government has made continuous efforts to improve the field of education. While the total budget of education was only ₹ 4366 crores in the year 2005, now it has increased to ₹ 77690 crores.

The Chief Minister said that the quality of education has improved significantly due to the appointment of a large number of teachers, construction of new school buildings and development of infrastructure.

The role of assistant personnel assisting in this effort — such as midday meal cooks, night watchmen and physical education and health instructors — has also been appreciated by the state government. In view of this, the Chief Minister has announced a doubling of their honorarium:

The honorarium of mid-day meal cooks has been increased from ₹1650 to ₹3300. The honorarium of night watchmen of secondary/high schools has been increased from ₹5000 to ₹10000. The honorarium of physical education and health instructors has been increased from ₹8000 to ₹16000. Also, their annual increment will now be ₹400 instead of ₹200.

The Chief Minister said that this decision will boost the morale of the employees and they will work with more enthusiasm and dedication. The government will continue to take similar concrete steps in the direction of strengthening the foundation of education.
