SASARAM---------------------------Shabnam Praveen has captured the post of Chief Councilor during the counting of votes on Monday in the Nagar Panchayat Kochas elections of the district. She got more than 400 votes from her nearest rival Sunita Devi. While Sneha Kumari Paswan, who was formerly the city president, won the post of Deputy Chief Councilor by defeating her nearest rival Vibha Devi by a margin of about 800 votes.

The counting of votes for the Nagar Panchayat Kochas by-election continued till Monday evening amid tight security arrangements at Shershah Suri Inter Level School located on Adda Road in the city and after the counting of votes was completed, certificates were distributed to the winning candidates by the Returning Officer. Outside the counting center, despite the mixed weather of sunshine and rain, a huge crowd of supporters gathered throughout the day and slogans were continuously raised in support of the winning participants. During this, the supporters fed sweets to each other on the victory of their respective candidates and also celebrated by applying abir gulal. It is worth noting that Sadar SDO Ashutosh Ranjan, in the course of counting of votes, closely inspected the entire premises including the counting place and directed the concerned officials to conduct the counting of votes in a transparent and fair manner as per the guidelines of the State Election Commission and also interacted with the candidates and polling personnel to get their feedback. Counting of votes started at 8 am and continued till evening and counting of votes for all the posts of the municipal body was done in several phases one by one.

At the same time, the results of a total of 16 wards of Kochas Nagar Panchayat have also been declared. Rita Devi from ward number 1, Chunmun Pandey from ward number 4, Raja alias Rakesh Sah from ward number 5, Preeti Kumari from ward number 6, Sunita Devi from ward number 7, Nazia Khatoon from ward number 13 and Shahzad Khan from ward number 16 have registered victory. While information about the results of some wards could not be obtained.

The temperature of the city remained high throughout the day regarding the upcoming results of the Nagar Panchayat elections. There was a huge crowd at the flower shops outside the counting centre since morning and on the day of counting, the prices of flowers also increased. All the supporters were seen buying garlands to welcome their candidates and as the election results started coming in, there was an atmosphere of happiness and sadness among the supporters. A huge crowd of supporters gathered outside the main gate of the counting centre. There was a lot of enthusiasm among the supporters of the winning candidate, while the supporters of the opposition camp were very disappointed.
