PATNA------------------------Bihar is expected to experience severe cold this year, so the Meteorological Department has issued an alert and indicated when the cold wave will hit the state. Following the Meteorological Department's warning, the Disaster Management Department has also issued instructions to all districts to remain alert.

According to the Meteorological Department, this year's cold will be severe. The cold is expected to intensify in the state from the first week of December, as minimum temperatures will drop sharply. West Champaran, East Champaran, Shivhar, Sitamarhi, Gopalganj, and Siwan will be most affected. Temperatures are expected to drop in these districts, and the cold may increase rapidly.

Severe cold is expected to begin in the second week of December. During this period, temperatures in most cities across the state will reach around 10 degrees Celsius or below.

In light of the Meteorological Department's alert, the Bihar government has begun preparations for the cold. All districts have been asked to make timely precautions. The Disaster Management Department has also issued standard operating procedures for protection against cold waves. The department says that severe cold waves occur between December and January. This year too, the temperature has started falling, hence preventive measures should be taken.

Dr. Chandrashekhar Singh, Secretary of the Disaster Management Department, has said that arrangements should be made to protect the homeless, rickshaw pullers, laborers and the destitute from the cold in urban and semi-urban areas. Night shelters should be built for them. Farmers should also be made aware of the damage caused to crops by cold waves. Necessary arrangements should be made for the safety of livestock.
