ARA--------------------------In Indian astrology and spirituality, Nakshatras have a special place of their own. There are a total of 27 Nakshatras in the sky, and the sixth of these Nakshatra ‘Ardra’ is considered extremely important due to its religious and spiritual mysteries. This Nakshatra not only indicates the arrival of monsoon, but also has deep philosophical and astrological meanings hidden within it.

The word ‘Ardra’ means ‘moisture’ or ‘wetness’. It is often represented by the symbol of a tear drop or a sparkling diamond. The name itself reflects the rain, purification and emotional depth associated with this Nakshatra. It is the time of moisture and rain after the scorching heat, which brings new life to the earth.

The presiding deity of Ardra Nakshatra is considered to be the fierce form of Lord Shiva, ‘Rudra’. Rudra is the destroyer, a symbol of change and destruction, but this destruction only paves the way for creation. Just as heavy rains are sometimes destructive but ultimately nourish life by making the earth fertile, Rudra also restores balance in the cycle of life. This shows that Ardra Nakshatra is not just related to external rains but also to internal purification and transformation.

According to astrology, Ardra Nakshatra is the nakshatra of planet Rahu and all its four phases are located in Gemini. Therefore, the natives born in this nakshatra are influenced by both Rahu and Mercury.

Intellectual turmoil and creativity: Ardra Nakshatra represents intellectual turmoil and challenges. It creates curiosity and a strong desire for exploration in the native. People born in this nakshatra are often clever, humorous and adept at public dealing.

Emotional depth and transformation: The symbol of ‘tear drop’ signifies emotional depth. This nakshatra encourages emotionality and brings big changes, success and new ideas in life.

Agriculture and Monsoon: When the Sun enters the Ardra Nakshatra, it is believed to signal the onset of monsoon. During this period, the earth is considered to be in a 'menstruating' state, and that is why activities like digging the land or plowing the fields are considered taboo in some places. In agricultural states like Bihar, a special 'Ardra Nakshatra Thali' is prepared on this occasion, which shows the agricultural importance of this period.

Giving up mango in Jainism: People of the Jain community give up eating mango during the Ardra Nakshatra. There are both spiritual and scientific perspectives behind this. It is believed that with the onset of rains, innumerable micro-organisms start to originate in fruits like mango, whose consumption may violate the non-violence principle of Jainism.

The Ardra Nakshatra is not just limited to physical rain or astrological effects, but it also has deep spiritual dimensions:

Purification and rebirth: Rain is a symbol of purification. Just like rain washes the earth clean, Ardra Nakshatra offers an opportunity for inner purification and renewal. It signifies shedding the old and moving towards the new in the spiritual journey.

Self-transformation: Rudra is associated with both destruction and creation. Spiritually, it inspires us to break our old habits, thoughts and limitations and transform into a new, more evolved form.

Tolerance and perseverance: In some texts, Ardra Nakshatra is also called the ‘head of man’, which teaches the importance of perseverance, patience and continuous effort. It inspires us to face challenges and learn from them.

Ardra Nakshatra is not just an astronomical phenomenon, but it establishes a deep connection between nature, spirituality and human life. It teaches us that change, no matter how drastic, ultimately leads to growth and renewal. This Nakshatra offers us an opportunity to connect with the cycles of nature, understand our emotions and grow spiritually.
