Manoj Mishra says that when Lord Buddha set out to attain enlightenment, he meditated under a banyan tree near the Mother Saraswati temple. He meditated for three days. On the third day, Mother Saraswati gave him a direct vision. Only after this did Lord Buddha attain enlightenment.

Saraswati Tirtha is one of the major altars: The Saraswati temple is also famous as a pilgrimage site. It is considered one of the main Pind Vedis (altars for offering pindas) of Gaya. Devotees come here to perform Pind Daan (offering of pindas) during the Pitru Paksha fair or on ordinary days. This temple of Mother Saraswati is known as Saraswati Tirtha in the Puranas. Here too, there is a tradition of performing Pind Daan to pray for the salvation of ancestors.

Great significance of Saraswati Tirtha: This is why a large number of devotees visit Saraswati Tirtha. This pilgrimage site is located at the confluence of the Niranjana and Mohane rivers. It is believed that where the streams of two rivers meet at one place, the inner stream merges in the form of Saraswati. Saraswati Tirtha is very famous. Devotees who visit Saraswati Tirtha consider themselves blessed after having darshan of Mother Saraswati.
