ARA------------------------A five-day training program on the subject of natural farming for 'Krishi Sakhi' was started under the National Natural Farming Mission at Krishi Vigyan Kendra Bhojpur (Bihar Agricultural University, Sabour, Bhagalpur). 20 Krishi Sakhis associated with Jeevika of Bhojpur district are participating in this training. They have been selected by the District Agriculture Department from five blocks Jagdishpur, Ara, Koilwar, Bihiya and Sandesh.

The program was inaugurated by Bhojpur District Agriculture Officer Dr. Neeraj Kumar and the Center's Senior Scientist and Head Dr. Shobha Rani by jointly lighting the lamp. On this occasion, the District Agriculture Officer said that natural farming is the need of the hour. This farming reduces the cost, keeps the soil healthy and is a powerful means of increasing the income of farmers. Jeevika Didi can play an important role in the agricultural revolution by spreading this knowledge to every village.

Assistant Director (Chemistry) Ansu Radhe, present on the occasion, said that we can move towards sustainable farming only by reducing dependence on chemical fertilizers. Experiments with natural farming will protect both the health and environment of farmers. Jeevika's livelihood manager Shailesh Kumar, while expressing his views, said that through Jeevika groups, the sisters will be the leaders in taking natural farming to the people. This training will prove to be a guide for them.

Senior scientist and head of Krishi Vigyan Kendra Bhojpur, who was presiding over the program, said that natural farming will make farmers self-reliant. By training Jeevika sisters, we are laying the foundation of sustainable agriculture. After this training, Krishi Sakhis will go back to their area and take the responsibility of spreading the importance of natural farming to other farmers and women. Nature farming is the only permanent option to prevent excessive use of chemical fertilizers and pesticides. Which will be successful in maintaining the fertility of the soil and environmental balance. The training was coordinated by Dr. Ajay Kumar Maurya, Scientist (Agricultural Science) and Dr. Sachidanand Singh, Scientist (Agricultural Extension). Both of them jointly said that in the five-day training, Jeevika didis will be given detailed information about natural farming techniques like seed treatment, Jeevamrit, Ghanjeevamrit, vermicompost, mulching and crop diversification.

On this occasion, scientists of Krishi Vigyan Kendra Bhojpur, Dr. Alok Bharti (Animal Science), Dr. Supriya Verma (Home Science), Dr. Anil Kumar Yadav (Genetics and Plant Breeding) and Dr. Vikas Kumar (Horticulture) were also present. All of them highlighted the importance of natural farming and said that this method will help in doubling the income of farmers along with conservation of soil, water and air.
