BHABHUA---------------------------A thief broke into a motorcycle trunk near the Radha Soami Organization, located on Nishan Singh Stadium Road, off the Nagar Panchayat Kudra Bhabhuan Road, under the Kudra police station area of the district. The incident was captured on CCTV. The victim, Sandeep Kumar, a resident of Simaria village, under the Sonhan police station area of the district, stated that he had brought ₹2,40,000 in a bag from home with his father and had withdrawn ₹35,000 from his father's account at the Punjab National Bank branch, Kudra. He placed the money in the trunk of his motorcycle, parked it near the Radha Soami Organization office on Nishan Singh Stadium Road, off the Bhabhuan Kudra Road, and went to meet someone there. When he returned four or five minutes later, he found the motorcycle trunk open and the bag of money missing. The victim viewed CCTV footage installed next to the Radha Soami Organization office, which showed a man approaching a motorcycle, opening the trunk, and fleeing with a bag containing money. However, the thief's face is not clearly visible in the CCTV footage. The victim submitted an application and CCTV footage to the police station in-charge, pleading for justice. It remains to be seen whether the administration will identify and arrest the thief based on the CCTV footage, or whether the case will be hushed up, as in most theft cases.
When the victim left the police station premises after submitting the application and CCTV footage to the police station in-charge, several media personnel recorded his statement to obtain information regarding the incident. Station in-charge Nandu Kumar and other officers working under the station expressed objections, which is laughable. The station in-charge stated that taking any kind of video or photo in or around the police station premises is prohibited, violating administrative confidentiality. Taking video or photo is against the rules. The station in-charge even appeared ready to confront the media, including threatening them. Whereas, when even one liter of liquor is seized, warrantees are arrested on court orders, or even a single alcoholic is apprehended, the same police station chief, to tout his achievements, takes photos and videos in the police station premises and sends them to the media with great pomp and show for publicity. Does the police station chief consider the media his slaves? They should broadcast news of his achievements and not the incidents of robbery, theft, and murder that occur within the police station area?
If sources are to be believed, the police station chief's concerns about breach of confidentiality appear to be true, as he is constantly surrounding himself with some sleazy YouTubers, rewarding them financially, and broadcasting only his achievements. And if the same truth is revealed in the hands of journalists, video of the transaction could lead to a breach of confidentiality. Journalists have the freedom to record statements from victims anywhere via audio and video, as per their wishes. But the police chief's refusal to publicize even minor achievements with the media, and his objection to the media taking a statement from the victim in front of the police station premises despite the theft of 275,000 rupees, is both laughable and a cause for concern for the area. This clearly demonstrates his inability to control crime and his desire to maintain his prestige through the media.
