On the occasion of World Menstrual Hygiene Day, a program was organized by Women and Child Development Corporation in Kasturba Gandhi Balika Vidyalaya, New Police Line Ara. The program was inaugurated by lighting the lamp jointly by District Program Officer (ICDS), District Minority Welfare Officer, Representative, Education Department, Medical Officer, District Mission Coordinator, (DHEW) Central Administration (OSC), teachers and students of the school.

ARA (RNI) On the occasion of World Menstrual Hygiene Day, a program was organized by Women and Child Development Corporation in Kasturba Gandhi Balika Vidyalaya, New Police Line Ara. The program was inaugurated by lighting the lamp jointly by District Program Officer (ICDS), District Minority Welfare Officer, Representative, Education Department, Medical Officer, District Mission Coordinator, (DHEW) Central Administration (OSC), teachers and students of the school.

Rashmi Sinha, District Program Officer (ICDS) said that information on hygiene management during menstruation is very important. Due to lack of information, adolescent girls suffer from many diseases. She advised on the correct use of items used during menstruation, pads, clothes etc., keeping them clean etc.

Mrs. Rashmi Medical Officer explained menstrual management in detail through PPT. He told about how to live during menstruation, to pay special attention to hygiene, etc. He told about the use of pads and their disposal after use, etc. He said that menstruation is very important for women/adolescents. There is nothing to be ashamed of in it. One should not pay attention to the myths of today like not taking bath, getting up and sitting in the society, etc.

District Minority Welfare Officer Bhojpur said that menstruation is a natural cycle in women/adolescents. There is nothing to be ashamed of in it. There is a need to talk about it openly.

Mohd. Tayyab Ahmed, District Mission Coordinator (DHEW) told that Menstrual Day was celebrated for the first time in 2013 by Germany-based NGO Wash United. Since then, every 28th of May is celebrated as World Menstrual Hygiene Day.

Its objective is to increase awareness all over the world and promote proper practices of menstrual hygiene management. Information about menstruation of girls should also be obtained from their mothers, female friends and elder sisters.

Menstrual hygiene management kits were also distributed to all the girl students present and they were given information on how to use them.

District Program Officer (ICDS), District Minority Welfare Officer, Education Department representative, District Mission Coordinator, Center Administrator, Psychosocial Counselor, MTS, School Warden, Teachers and others were present in the program.
