ARA-------------------------when the country is rapidly moving towards the digital age and there is talk of development in every field, it is also important that the light of development should not be limited to cities, but should reach every village. In a state like Bihar, where more than 80 percent of the population lives in villages, there is a great need for lighting arrangements in basic facilities, especially high mask lights.
High mask light is a powerful light installed on a high pole which illuminates a large area. These lights are mainly installed at squares, markets, bus stands and public places so that there is freedom from darkness at night.
High mask lights and street lights have become common in urban areas, but most of the villages still get immersed in darkness as soon as night falls. Important places like squares, schools, panchayat bhawan, temples, markets, playgrounds, even graveyards and crematoriums are deprived of adequate lighting.
It is difficult to pass through these areas at night. Women, elderly, children and students face the most problems. Criminal elements become active taking advantage of the darkness, due to which incidents like theft and molestation increase.
Reduction in crime: Darkness is the weapon of criminals. Lighting at squares and intersections will curb their activities, Prevention of accidents: Due to clear lighting, drivers and pedestrians will be able to see the road clearly, which will reduce road accidents, Promotion of social activities: Organizing cultural programs, group meetings, festivals at night will also be easily possible due to lighting, Safety of women: Women will be able to go to the market or hospital without fear even at night, Rural beautification and self-confidence: The identity and image of villages will improve. It will become a symbol of self-respect.
Survey at Panchayat level: The state government should identify the squares, markets, public places in each Panchayat and conduct a survey of the need for high mask lights there, Start of a special scheme: A “Rural High Mask Light Scheme” should be made, in which District Plan, MP Fund, MLA Fund and CSR Fund should be used, Local employment: Employment can also be provided by training local youth for the installation, maintenance and operation of the lights, Solar high mask lights can be installed in areas with power shortage, which will also protect the environment.
Along with the government, social organizations, village heads, panchayat representatives and the general public should also become aware and take initiative in this direction. People should demand for their village by giving a memorandum to the public representatives so that this issue is included in the priority.
