PATNA---------------------------Describing the incident of the Bihar Chief Minister publicly pulling off a woman doctor's veil while presenting her with a certificate as shameful, the All India Progressive Women's Association (AIPWA) staged a strong protest near Buddha Smriti Park in Patna today. During the protest, the demonstrators said that this incident has not only hurt the dignity of a woman doctor but has also insulted all the women of Bihar.

Addressing the protest, AIPWA General Secretary Meena Tiwari said that the Chief Minister's conduct is highly reprehensible and unacceptable. She said that this incident is a blatant attack on women's dignity, their personal rights, and constitutional freedoms. The Chief Minister of Bihar should be publicly ashamed of this act. Our Constitution gives every woman the right to dress according to her choice, faith, and religious identity. No person, regardless of their position, has the right to violate a woman's personal freedom. She appealed to the Supreme Court to take suo motu cognizance of the entire matter.

Former CPI (ML) MLA Mehboob Alam said that after this incident, BJP leaders are making statements spreading communal hatred, which is further aggravating the situation. He said that this trend of attacks on the rights of women and minorities under the protection of power is dangerous for democracy.

The protest was addressed by Legislative Council member Shashi Yadav, Divya Gautam, Vandana Prabha, AIPWA city secretary Anuradha, Rakhi Mehta, Gulshan Jahan, Vibha Gupta, and several other women leaders and activists.

The speakers unanimously condemned the incident and called for intensifying the struggle to protect the dignity and rights of women.

A large number of women participated in the program and appealed to Ayush doctor Nusrat not to leave Bihar and to join her job. The speakers said that the women of Bihar are with her. Whatever decision she takes will be respected, and the struggle to protect her honor and rights will continue.
