PATNA---------------------------Jagdishpur MLA Shri Bhagwan Kushwaha has been appointed as a minister in the Bihar government, a development that has sent a wave of joy across his constituency. His political journey has been marked by struggle.

The appointment of Shri Bhagwan Kushwaha—the Janata Dal (United) MLA from Jagdishpur who has championed the politics of socialism rooted in leftist ideology—as a minister in the Bihar government has sparked a wave of jubilation throughout the region.

Upon receiving the news of his assumption of ministerial office, a festive atmosphere immediately enveloped the entire Jagdishpur Assembly constituency, as well as his ancestral village, Dulhinganj.

Shri Bhagwan Kushwaha—son of Devdhari Singh, a resident of Dulhinganj village—exemplifies a life defined by struggle and dedication. Hailing from a humble background, Kushwaha established himself in the political arena through grassroots activism and struggle. He has previously served as a minister in the government formed under the leadership of Nitish Kumar.

His father worked at the Dalmia Nagar factory. His early education took place at Dulhinganj Primary School, followed by his secondary education at Kaura Masadh High School. Among four brothers—Sudeshwar Singh, Bindeshwari Singh, Shri Bhagwan Kushwaha, and Pradeep Singh—he is the third eldest.

He became active in social and political life in 1980. At the age of 25, in 1990, he embarked on his political journey by winning his first election as an MLA on a ticket from the IPF (Indian People's Front)—now known as the CPI (ML). Subsequently, in 1993, inspired by Sharad Yadav, he joined the Janata Dal.

During this period, he was appointed Chairman of the Department of Science and Technology. In 1995, after being denied a party ticket, he joined the Samata Party under the mentorship of Nitish Kumar and became the State President of the Yuva Samata Party (Youth Wing). In the 2000 elections, contesting from Jagdishpur, he was elected as an MLA after defeating the state's then-Minister of State for Finance, Harinarayan Singh.

Following this, by securing re-election as an MLA in 2005—marking his second term—he firmly demonstrated his strong political foothold in the region. From 2007 to 2010, he served as the Minister of Rural Development in the government led by Nitish Kumar. He lost the election in 2010, and in 2020, contesting on a Lok Janshakti Party (LJP) ticket, he secured the second position.

In the by-election for the Bihar Legislative Council held on July 27, 2024, he became a Member of the Legislative Council (MLC) representing the Janata Dal (United) [JD(U)]. Following a long and extensive political career, he was once again elected as a Member of the Legislative Assembly (MLA) in 2025—a testament to his enduring popularity. His appointment as a minister has kindled new hope among the people of the region that development initiatives will now gain further momentum.

Sudeshwar Singh, his elder brother—present at their ancestral home in Dulhinganj—expressed his delight, stating that it is a matter of immense joy and pride that Shri Bhagwan Singh Kushwaha, the MLA from Jagdishpur and a resident of Dulhinganj village, has become a minister in the state government. Amidst this celebratory atmosphere, the entire family—along with a large number of villagers—has traveled to Patna to participate in the felicitation ceremony.
