DELHI---------------------------Elon Musk's Starlink service, which will transform internet connectivity in India, is set to launch soon. The company has received most of the approvals from the Indian government, and it is estimated that commercial services will begin by the end of 2025. Initial testing and security checks are being completed. Approximately 10 base stations will be built across the country, with Mumbai being developed as a hub.
The government has clarified that all traffic will pass through gateways within India, meaning data will not be transferred to foreign systems. Starlink claims that users will receive internet speeds ranging from 25 Mbps to 250 Mbps. This speed will depend on location, network conditions, and technical setup. This is considered a major relief for rural and remote areas. One-time hardware setup fee: Approximately ₹30,000 to ₹35,000 Monthly subscription charge: ₹3,000 to ₹4,200 Prices may be flexible under initial promotional offers, but this has not been officially confirmed. According to reports, the Indian government may impose a cap of 2 million Starlink users.
The company has obtained a Unified License in India and has agreed to comply with security and data regulations. Starlink's arrival will most benefit areas where broadband and fiber networks have not yet reached. Satellite internet is expected to accelerate the digital revolution, especially in hilly, rural, and border areas.
It should be noted that Elon Musk's Starlink could prove to be a game changer for the internet sector in India. While it costs more than traditional broadband right now, it's going to be a big option for rural areas and those who want fast, reliable internet.
