In the Civil Lines neighborhood of the city police station area, panic erupted on Tuesday afternoon when a dispute between two groups over suspicion of informing escalated into a violent altercation, resulting in an acid attack. Four youths from both groups, Bittu Rajak, Mahi Verma, Aditya Singh, and Raj Chauhan, were seriously burned in the attack. All the injured were immediately rushed to Sadar Hospital, where they are undergoing treatment.

According to information received regarding the incident, Satish Verma owns a gold and silver shop in Civil Lines. Police had conducted a raid near this shop on Monday based on a tip-off. Following this police action, some criminals suspected the shopkeeper had been the informant. This suspicion led to unrest in the entire area on Tuesday.

In the morning, a heated argument and verbal abuse broke out between the two parties, after which the shopkeeper informed the police.

It is reported that the accused, angered by this, returned to the shop in the afternoon and began assaulting the shopkeeper.

The dispute escalated to the point where someone in the crowd suddenly threw acid. Upon being hit by the acid, young men from both sides began screaming, and chaos erupted. People began running in different directions, and the entire area was engulfed in panic.

Upon receiving the information, Town Police Station Officer Manoj Kumar Singh arrived at the scene with a police team and brought the situation under control. He stated that there had been a prior dispute between the two parties. It is not yet clear who threw the acid. The police are investigating the entire matter both technically and humanely. Efforts are underway to identify the accused based on evidence recovered from the scene. The station in-charge stated that strict legal action will be taken against the culprits and no one will be spared. Following this incident, an atmosphere of panic has gripped the Civil Lines neighborhood, and police have increased patrols as a precaution.
