PATNA-------------------------Whenever Bhojpuri cinema is talked about, one name is taken with full respect and pride - Kunal Singh. Coming from Maner, Bihar, he not only took Bhojpuri films to new heights, but also gave an identity in which the fragrance of the soil and intimacy resides. In a special conversation with Sahara Samay Digital, Kunal Singh shared many important things about his life, career and the roots of Bhojpuri cinema.
Kunal Singh ruled the hearts of the audience with his natural acting in films like 'Ganga Kinare Mora Gaon', 'Bairi Kangana'. This was the reason why he was awarded the title of 'Hero No. 1'. There was no pretense or pretense in his films - only the soul of a true artist was visible.
Kunal Singh, originally from Maner, Bihar, still considers himself a "son of the village". This feeling has been reflected in every film of his. He truly brought that desiness on screen, which made Bhojpuri cinema connect with the common people deeply.
In the 80s, when cinema was going through a phase of technological changes, Kunal Singh's tall stature, strong dialogue delivery and innocent eyes made him the Amitabh Bachchan of Bhojpuri. The audience considered him not just an actor but a part of their family.
Even though he contested the Lok Sabha elections from Bihar, but even in the crowd of politics, his heart was always close to acting and his fans. Even today, he considers himself an actor and social worker.
In the year 2012, he was honored with the President's Award by the then President Pranab Mukherjee for his outstanding contribution to Bhojpuri films. This honor was a matter of pride not only for him but for the entire Bhojpuri society.
Very few people know that he had also received an offer to play the role of Lord Ram in Ramanand Sagar's 'Ramayana' serial, but due to time and circumstances, he did not do that role.
The biggest specialty of Kunal Singh is that he has linked Bhojpuri cinema not only with glamour and masala but also with culture, social values and emotions. He believes that films are not just entertainment but a mirror of society.
Today, when new faces and new experiments are happening in Bhojpuri cinema, Kunal Singh's simplicity, acting and value-based thinking remain an example. He is not only an artist but also a true representative of Bhojpuri identity.
