Contract Workers’ Issue, NDMC employees again on the path of agitation
M.K. Madhubala Journalist
New Delhi (RNI) Ashok Kumar, convener of the NDMC SC/ST Employees Front (Registered), has demanded from the council administration that 889 contract employees be provided with all the benefits available to other employees.
In a statement issued here today, Mr. Kumar said that the Municipal Council had already approved this through Resolution No. 14 (H-10) on August 27, 2014. However, despite this approval, these employees have still not received transport allowance, house rent allowance, or cashless medical facilities, even though the resolution passed by the Council should be legally enforceable.
He further said that once the Council’s resolution has been passed, it is not justified to deprive employees of its benefits on the basis of technical reasons or internal administrative delays. He also pointed out that Articles 14 and 16 of the Constitution guarantee the right to equality and equal opportunity, and therefore, discrimination against contract employees is not acceptable. Mr. Kumar warned that if the situation continues, the employees will be forced to launch another agitation.
The Front leader added that the daily lives of contract employees are being severely affected due to the lack of allowances and medical facilities. In the face of rising inflation, survival without house rent allowance has become difficult, and the absence of healthcare benefits has pushed many employees and their families into serious crisis.L.S.
