BHABHUA--------------------------The scene on the district's roads was quite different on Friday. Bike riders without helmets, who usually change their route upon seeing the police, were surprised when police officers, instead of showing them a stick or issuing a fine, smiled and offered them roses. Under the 'National Road Safety Month 2026', the district administration and the transport department have adopted this unique 'humanitarian' approach to raise awareness about road safety.

The objective of this 'Stop and Advise' campaign, conducted at major intersections in Bhabhua and Mohania, was not to punish those violating the rules, but to make them realize the importance of their own safety. During the campaign, transport department officials and police personnel stopped two-wheeler riders who were traveling without helmets. The officials gave them roses and made them pledge that they would not leave home without a helmet in the future.

The officers present explained to the drivers that the main cause of most deaths in road accidents is serious head injuries. They emphasized, "A helmet is not mandatory to avoid police action or punishment, but for the safety of your own life and the happiness of your family." A simple helmet can prevent any major mishap.

This road safety month, which started on January 1st in Kaimur district, will continue till January 31st. According to the transport department's data, a positive increase has been observed in the number of helmet wearers in the district in the last few years. Now the department aims to ensure 100% helmet coverage in the district. In this regard, awareness is being spread to every village throughout the month through painting competitions, quizzes, and street plays. The District Transport Officer (DTO), Kaimur, while giving information about this campaign, said:

"Our objective is not merely to collect fines or generate revenue, but to bring about a positive change in people's mindset. Your safety on the road is our top priority. The campaign will not be successful until every individual understands this as their responsibility."

The district administration has appealed to the general public to follow traffic rules not only during special campaigns but to make it a part of their daily routine. Use seat belts while driving four-wheelers, do not violate the prescribed speed limits, and avoid dangerous habits like 'drink and drive'. Only through these small changes can the roads of Kaimur be made safe and accident-free.
