The anger of the villagers erupted on the streets on Sunday in protest against the rape of a student in the Sonvarsha police station area. The enraged villagers blocked the Ara-Mohania main road near Mahuari village at around 10 am. During the road blockade, the villagers were shouting slogans demanding that the accused be given a quick death sentence through a fast-track court and that the SP be called to the spot. Later, on the initiative of SP Shubham Arya, the villagers removed the blockade from the road. Due to the road blockade, which lasted for about five hours, a long queue of vehicles stretched for about five kilometers on both sides of the national highway. This caused great inconvenience to passengers and other vehicle services. The blockade was led by former MLA Ajit Kushwaha and Rashtriya Janata Dal leader Arvind Kumar Singh alias Gama Pehalwan.

The leaders strongly condemned the incident, saying that such incidents are shameful for society and raise serious questions about law and order. Upon receiving the information, the police from Sonvarsha police station and other police stations reached the spot and tried to pacify the villagers. Even SDPO Pulastya Kumar tried hard to convince the agitated people, but the protesters remained adamant on their demands. The situation was brought under control when Superintendent of Police Shubham Arya, who arrived at the spot, assured strict action against the culprit and speedy justice through a fast-track court.

After the SP's assurance, the villagers removed the blockade. It is reported that on Saturday, a student from a village in the Sonvarsha police station area was going to Kadsar for tuition with her cousin. During this time, near the Dangauli bridge, the accused forcibly abducted the student and took her to a hut by the canal, where he committed the rape. Upon receiving information about the incident, the police took swift action and arrested the main accused. Villagers have demanded that the culprit be given the harshest possible punishment so that such incidents do not recur in the future.

The main accused in the incident has been arrested. His accomplice has also been apprehended. The victim's family had some demands, which led the villagers to block the road. The family and villagers have been reassured. Strict action will be taken against the accused through a fast-track court. - Shubham Arya, SP, Buxar
