BUXAR------------------------------The Excise Department has achieved another major success against liquor smugglers on the Buxar-Ara-Patna four-lane highway. The cunning smugglers had kept the truck completely empty from the top to deceive the police, but their cleverness proved futile.

The Excise Department conducted a raid near Son Hotel at Bihiya Chaurasta near Jagdishpur. When a truck that had entered Bihar from Uttar Pradesh via Buxar was thoroughly searched, the secret compartment built in the driver's cabin was discovered.

Total liquor: 73 cartons (630 liters of foreign liquor) Estimated price: Approximately ₹13 lakh. The truck was carrying liquor from Uttarakhand to Patna. Foreign liquor in tetra packs. Mahendra Yadav (Ramanuj Tola, Khudaganj, Nawada) was arrested on the spot and sent to jail.

The driver revealed that he was transporting the consignment at the behest of the truck owner, Mutra Yadav of Nalanda. The delivery was to be made in Patna after contacting a mobile number.

The continuous seizures on the Buxar-Ara-Patna four-lane highway indicate that smugglers consider it a safe route, but the police are also on high alert: January 19: Liquor worth ₹6 lakh seized. January 13: Liquor worth ₹60 lakh seized in Shahpur. January 12: Liquor recovered from a luxury car in Ara. January 9: Huge consignments worth ₹60 lakh and ₹1 crore were seized in Naya Bhojpur and Bihiya respectively.

The police and the Excise Department are continuously conducting raids to make the liquor ban in Bihar a success. The arm of the law is long, no matter how deep the hiding place!
