APPEAL TO THE UNION MINISTER REGARDING GANGA EROSION

24-JAN-ENG 2

RAJIV NAYAN AGRAWAL

ARA------------------------------Former Shahpur MLA Munni Devi and BJP leader Mukteshwar Ojha alias Bhuaar Ojha met with Union Minister of Jal Shakti D. Raj Bhushan Chaudhary in New Delhi. During the meeting, the former MLA drew the minister's attention to the severe erosion caused by the Ganga River in Jawainiya village of Shahpur block. She also handed over a detailed letter to the minister, highlighting the critical situation in the area.

In recent years, particularly in 2024 and 2025, the unprecedented rise in the water level and the strong current of the Ganga River have almost wiped out Jawainiya village. The village has lost its original form, and the lives of its residents have been severely affected. Worryingly, this serious threat of erosion is now rapidly spreading to nearby villages such as Chakki Nauranga, Gangapur, Bhusaula, and Damodarpur, posing a risk of displacement and uncertainty for thousands of residents in these villages.

To address this serious problem, former MLA Munni Devi and BJP leader Mukteshwar Ojha presented the following important demands to the Union Minister:

1) An immediate and thorough inspection of the affected area by experts from the Water Resources Department.

2) The construction of boulder pitching or a strong protective wall to permanently stop the severe erosion of the Ganga River should be started on a war footing.

3)  Appropriate compensation should be immediately provided to the landless families who have lost their homes due to river erosion, and proper arrangements should be made for their rehabilitation.

Former MLA Munni Devi said, "My struggle for the safety and fundamental rights of the people of my constituency will continue."
