BUXAR-------------------------Alleged land mafia activities in Buxar district have once again stirred political and administrative circles. Sohnipatti residents Sudamaji Upadhyay and Rajankant Upadhyay have leveled serious allegations against Pradeep Rai, a prominent BJP leader and hotelier, of land grabbing, forced occupation, and illegal construction using forged documents.
Alleged land mafia activities in Buxar district have once again stirred political and administrative circles. Sohnipatti residents Sudamaji Upadhyay and Rajankant Upadhyay have leveled serious allegations against Pradeep Rai, a prominent BJP leader and hotelier, of land grabbing, forced occupation, and illegal construction using forged documents. Furthermore, both have stated that their lives are in danger from the BJP leader. Both victims, led by former Dumraon MLA Dr. Ajit Kumar Singh, submitted a memorandum to the District Magistrate, pleading for justice and protection.
Victim Sudama Upadhyay alleges that his ancestral six-kattha land, located directly behind a hotel on the New Bus Stand Bypass Road, has been fraudulently registered and taken over. He stated that this land, account number 71/42 and plot number 321/938, was never sold by him or his family to anyone. Despite this, BJP leaders Pradeep Rai and Akhilesh Rai forcibly occupied the land and began illegal construction. Sudama Upadhyay, making sensational allegations, stated that a so-called acceptance letter was prepared using a fake thumbprint of his mother, the late Shivpujani Devi. His mother had passed away on November 30, 2013, and the document shows the date as November 4, 2016. Based on these forged documents, four katthas of land were registered, and the entire six katthas were taken over.
He stated that a case of fraud and forgery of documents has been filed in the Civil Court, Buxar. The court took cognizance of this matter under sections 467 and 471 of the Indian Penal Code and issued warrants against Pradeep Rai and Akhilesh Rai on December 20, 2025. Despite this, no concrete action has been taken to remove the encroachment; instead, he and his family are receiving threats.
Another victim, Rajankant Upadhyay, stated that he purchased 20 katthas of land in 2006, of which three katthas were sold in 2009. The remaining 17 katthas of land are located in Lalganj Mouza, with account number 137/115 and plot number 653/485. It is alleged that BJP leader Pradeep Rai has forcibly occupied this land and incorporated it into the playground of his Birla Open Minds School. Rajankant stated that the current land receipt is issued in his name, yet his pleas are not being heard at the administrative level.
On this entire issue, former Dumraon MLA Dr. Ajit Kumar Singh sharply criticized Bihar's Deputy Chief Minister and Land Reforms Minister Vijay Sinha, who is talking about taking action by compiling a list of land mafias. The question is, when the allegations are directly against a BJP leader, will action be taken against him in a government of good governance? He said that if the victims do not receive justice, they will resort to agitation. Currently, both victims have demanded the administration immediately stop the illegal occupation and construction work, take strict legal action against the culprits, and ensure the safety of their families. It remains to be seen when and what action the administration takes on these serious allegations.
