WARD MEMBER SHOT DEAD, TWO INJURED

ARA--------------------------A ward member was shot dead on Friday morning in Bhikhampur village, under the Chauri police station area of ​​Bhojpur district, while attempting to mediate an ongoing dispute between two parties. Two of his cousins ​​were also injured in the ensuing assault with sticks and clubs. Both injured individuals are undergoing treatment at Ara Sadar Hospital. The incident has caused a sensation in the village and surrounding areas.

The deceased has been identified as Ashok Singh (45), son of Gandhi Ji and a resident of Bhikhampur village; he served as the ward member for Ward No. 11 of Diliya Panchayat in Agiaon Block. Reports indicate that he had arrived on Friday morning to resolve a dispute between two groups. During the mediation, assailants shot him at close range near his left shoulder. Critically injured, Ashok Singh was being rushed to Ara Sadar Hospital for treatment but succumbed to his injuries on the way.

Additionally, two cousins ​​accompanying him were assaulted during the incident. The injured include Krishna Singh (52) and Baliram Singh (36), sons of the late Ram Dayal Singh and residents of Bhikhampur village. Both are currently receiving treatment at Ara Sadar Hospital.

Preliminary information suggests a land dispute lies behind the incident. However, the police are investigating the actual motives for the murder and the roles of the accused involved.

Upon receiving news of the incident, Chauri Station House Officer (SHO) Rakesh Kumar Singh arrived at the scene with a police force, inspected the site, and initiated an investigation. The police are questioning locals to ascertain the cause of the incident and identify the accused.
