PATNA-----------------------The state government has taken a significant and sensitive step regarding the high-profile Bharat Tiwari encounter case, which shook Bihar's political landscape and law-and-order situation. Bihar's Deputy Chief Minister Samrat Chaudhary confirmed via his official social media handle (X) that "based on the interim report of the judicial inquiry commission, the state government will provide financial assistance to the aggrieved family of the late Bharat Tiwari."
CM Samrat Chaudhary also stated in his social media post that "a government job will be provided to one member of the family." This official announcement brings a sense of major relief to the aggrieved family in their pursuit of justice.
Acknowledging the gravity of the matter, Chief Minister Samrat Chaudhary tweeted that the judicial commission investigating the entire episode impartially has submitted its interim report. The state government has taken this major decision based on the facts and recommendations contained in that report.
The Chief Minister clarified that the government stands with the aggrieved family during this difficult time. Keeping the family's livelihood and security in mind, the process of providing a government job to a dependent family member, alongside financial compensation, will be completed soon. This move by the government is being viewed as an effort to ensure fairness and uphold justice.
Bharat Tiwari was shot by the police during an encounter last June in Bilauti village, under the Shahpur police station area of Bhojpur district. The police administration claimed that Tiwari was brandishing an illegal weapon and attempted to fire at the police; he was subsequently shot in retaliatory fire and passed away while undergoing treatment at the hospital.
However, a 'Facebook Live' video recorded by Bharat Tiwari at the time of the incident raised serious questions regarding the police's claims. In the video, Bharat was seen allegedly throwing his pistol towards the police with the intention of surrendering. Villagers and family members alleged that this was a premeditated 'fake encounter,' as Bharat Tiwari had been vocal on social media regarding the rehabilitation of flood victims and local administrative corruption.
Following the incident, organizations representing forward and backward castes, the general public, and opposition parties across Bihar launched a campaign against the government. Faced with mounting pressure from all quarters, the Chief Minister constituted a judicial inquiry commission headed by a retired High Court judge.
This announcement comes at a time when the Chief Judicial Magistrate (CJM) court in Ara has also adopted a very stern stance on the matter. Finding prima facie evidence of serious irregularities in the police action, the court issued non-bailable warrants against 11 officials and police personnel, including the then SDM, SDPO, and the Station House Officer (SHO) of Shahpur. The court's strict approach and the Chief Minister's major announcement make it clear that the legal noose is tightening around those involved in the Bharat Tiwari encounter case, and it is now impossible for the guilty to escape.
