BHABHUA-----------------------A major theft incident came to light in Ward No. 4 of Kudra Nagar Panchayat of the district on Thursday, which created a sensation in the area. Unidentified thieves targeted a closed house located just 300 meters away from Kudra police station and stole about Rs 3 lakh 65 thousand in cash and gold and silver jewelery worth more than Rs 10 lakh. As soon as information about the incident was received, Kudra police station reached the spot and started investigation. Considering the seriousness of the matter, the dog squad and forensic team were also called, which started the work of collecting evidence from the incident site in a scientific manner.
Victim Ashok Rawat told that he had gone to Kolkata with his entire family on 21 July 2026 for important work. On Thursday, August 6, 2026, when he returned to his home and entered the house, he saw that the locks of the rooms were broken and all the stuff was scattered. On investigation, it was found that the lock of the box and cupboard was broken and all the things kept in it wereValuable jewelry and cash are missing.
According to the victim, the thieves entered the house via the roof and searched the entire premises, breaking the locks on every room one by one. They executed the theft with great precision. It was reported that approximately ₹3.65 lakh in cash and gold and silver jewelry worth over ₹10 lakh were stolen. The stolen items include precious jewelry that the family had cherished and preserved for years.
There is considerable outrage among the locals following the incident. Residents point out that CCTV cameras installed in the Kudra town area at a cost of lakhs of rupees have been non-functional for months. Had the cameras been operational, the thieves' movements could have been recorded, making it easier for the police to track down the culprits. Residents allege that the defunct CCTV cameras have become mere showpieces, emboldening criminals.
What is most surprising is that the theft occurred just 300 meters away from the Kudra police station. Despite this, the thieves calmly entered the house and made off with property worth lakhs. The incident has raised serious questions regarding the town's security and police patrolling arrangements.
Upon receiving information about the incident, the Kudra police immediately arrived at the scene. They inspected the house and the surrounding area and questioned local residents. Subsequently, a dog squad and a forensic team arrived to conduct a scientific investigation. The team collected potential fingerprints, footprints, and other technical evidence to help identify the perpetrators.
The Station House Officer (SHO) of Kudra confirmed receiving the report of the theft and stated that a written complaint has been filed by the victim. Given the seriousness of the matter, the police are investigating all aspects of the case and gathering evidence with the help of the dog squad and forensic team. The police have assured that the case will be solved soon and the accused arrested. Meanwhile, local residents have demanded that the district administration immediately reactivate non-functional CCTV cameras in the town, increase night patrols, and effectively curb the rising incidents of theft. They warn that if security measures are not strengthened promptly, criminal activities in the town could escalate further.
