ARA-------------------------Air pollution levels remain high in the district headquarters, Ara. The city's Air Quality Index (AQI) is currently reported to be in the 150-160 range, causing distress to residents. The highest pollution levels have been recorded near the Collectorate.

Road construction work is currently underway at several locations across the city. A mixture of crushed stone, sand, and cement is being used during construction activities. In sunny weather, cement and dust particles disperse into the air, thereby increasing pollution.

Dust rising from city roads, encroachment upon historical ponds, and inadequate waste management have been identified as major causes of rising air pollution. Air quality is being adversely affected by construction work, vehicular emissions, and rising levels of PM2.5 and PM10.

Historical ponds in the city and surrounding areas are falling prey to encroachment. Encroachments on water bodies—such as the Collectorate Pond, the Godhna Road Pond, and others, in addition to those in the Gandhinagar and Bind Toli areas—are impacting the environment.

Pollution is also increasing due to irregular garbage collection and the failure to clean drains on time within the municipal area. The accumulation of open waste causes foul odors and pollution, while also posing a risk of disease outbreaks.

Efforts have been made by the Forest Department and local administration to plant trees along roadsides; however, many saplings are perishing due to a lack of proper maintenance. This is negatively affecting the city's green cover.

AQI Levels and Their Effects

0-50: Good – The air is clean, and there is no health risk.

51-100: Satisfactory/Moderate – Air quality is acceptable, though highly sensitive individuals may experience mild respiratory discomfort.

101-200: Poor – Respiratory patients and the elderly may experience chest tightness or breathing difficulties.

201-500: Poor to Severe – The air can be seriously harmful to health. Even healthy individuals may suffer from lung and eye irritation, coughing, and other health issues.
