SASARAM--------------------------Sasaram police dismantled a cunning fake marriage racket that pulled off a con at Hotel Ganga Inn, arresting three suspects, including the hotel operator, and seizing ₹1 lakh in cash after the bride fled under the guise of a toilet break.

In a shocking incident reported on June 11, 2025, Monu Ram Shivhare from Badhreta village, Savalgarh Thana, Morena, Madhya Pradesh, was swindled of ₹2.55 lakh in a meticulously staged wedding. The victim lodged a complaint at Sasaram Nagar Thana, stating that after an elaborate mandap was set up and marriage rituals completed, the bride slipped away citing a need to use the restroom, while her alleged relatives vanished from the scene. Acting promptly, a team led by SDPO-1 Dilip Kumar and Town Police Station Inspector Rajeev Ranjan Rai raided Hotel Ganga Inn, apprehending hotel operator Rajesh Jaiswal, the bride’s supposed aunt Rajmani Kunwar, and her son Prince Kumar. A cash haul of ₹1 lakh was recovered during the raid.

Investigations revealed the racket was orchestrated by Rajmani Kunwar and Prince Kumar, residents of Beri Bandh village under Parsathua police station, with a track record of similar frauds at Hotel Ganga Inn. SDPO Dilip Kumar stated, “This is an organized gang preying on youths’ desperation for marriage, defrauding them of lakhs.” Police have launched a manhunt for other fugitives involved, with raids continuing across the region.

The fake marriage scam in Sasaram has emerged as a pressing social and criminal concern. While the police’s swift action deserves praise, rooting out such rackets demands exhaustive investigations and tougher crackdowns.

The SDPO said that a Madhya Pradesh groom was left reeling after a fake bride and her accomplices pulled off a swindle in Sasaram, vanishing with ₹2.5 lakh, jewellery, and gifts hours after a staged wedding, exposing yet another marriage fraud racket in Rohtas. On June 11, 2025, Monu Raj Shivhare from Kailaras, Morena, Madhya Pradesh, fell victim to a meticulously planned scam orchestrated through a broker who arranged his marriage to Kajal Kumari from Tilouthu, Rohtas. The wedding was solemnized at a dharmshala near Sasaram’s Dharmshala Mod, with a fake pandit conducting the rituals. Barely hours after the ceremony, the bride, citing a need to use the toilet, fled the scene. To the groom’s shock, her alleged uncle, sister, and maternal uncle also disappeared, taking ₹2.5 lakh in cash, jewellery, and gifts. A distraught Monu, in tears, lodged a complaint at Sasaram Nagar Thana late that night. At the heart of the scam is Pinki Devi, a resident of a rented house in Sasaram’s Takiya Mohalla, who allegedly masterminded the fraud with fake relatives. Police have detained Rajo Devi from Karghar, who posed as the bride’s aunt, for questioning. Monu and his brother revealed that a shortage of brides in Madhya Pradesh’s Gwalior region forces many men to remain unmarried, a vulnerability exploited by brokers promising matches in Bihar. Reports suggest Pinki Devi leads this racket, with a video of the cash transaction allegedly circulating on social media, though its authenticity remains unverified.

Sasaram SDPO Dilip Kumar stated, “We are probing the case with utmost seriousness. Initial findings point to an organized gang targeting vulnerable youths, particularly from poor and hilly areas, under the guise of marriage.” Police suspect the racket preys on desperate grooms, fleecing them through staged weddings

The scam has sparked outrage in Sasaram, highlighting a growing menace of marriage fraud. Swift police action is underway, but dismantling such syndicates demands rigorous investigation and stringent measures.
