National Lok Adalat Settles 56,425 Cases In Budaun, Recovers ₹5.40 Crore

RNI BUDAUN: As many as 56,425 cases were settled and around ₹5.40 crore was recovered during the National Lok Adalat organised in Budaun on Saturday under the directions of the National Legal Services Authority (NALSA), New Delhi, and the Uttar Pradesh State Legal Services Authority, Lucknow.

The Lok Adalat was organised by the District Legal Services Authority (DLSA), Budaun, from 10 am at the district court premises. In-charge District Judge and DLSA Chairperson Rinku inaugurated the event by offering floral tributes to Goddess Saraswati and lighting the ceremonial lamp.

Addressing the gathering, Rinku described the National Lok Adalat as a platform for providing speedy, affordable and accessible justice through mutual settlement. She also urged judicial and banking officials to make concerted efforts for the maximum disposal of cases.

DLSA In-charge Secretary Ankit Rastogi, Additional Civil Judge (Senior Division), said that disputes including compoundable criminal cases, cases under Section 138 of the Negotiable Instruments Act, motor accident claims, matrimonial and family disputes, labour matters, land acquisition, tenancy, traffic challans, revenue disputes and electricity-related matters can be settled through the Lok Adalat.

The Family Courts disposed of 102 matrimonial and family disputes through mutual settlement, while the Motor Accident Claims Tribunal settled 86 compensation petitions, ensuring compensation of ₹5.20 crore to accident victims.

The Consumer Forum disposed of four out of five cases, providing compensation of ₹19.46 lakh to affected parties. The Permanent Lok Adalat settled two of 20 cases placed before it.

According to the DLSA, around 46,617 pre-litigation cases and 7,854 pending civil and criminal cases were settled during the event. The pre-litigation matters included disputes related to electricity, revenue, local bodies, banks, BSNL and other departments.

Officials said the combined efforts of judicial officers, court staff, para-legal volunteers and bank representatives contributed to the successful conduct of the National Lok Adalat.
