Hyderabad: Bathukamma celebrated with women from 29 states under ‘CLICK’ initiative

HYDERABAD SEP 29 (RNI) The Telangana Department of Language and Culture organised Bathukamma celebrations in a unique way at Ravindra Bharathi, bringing together women representatives from 29 states across India, in addition to participants from Andhra Pradesh and Telangana States. 

The event was held under the banner of Culture, Language Indian Connections (CLICK), with Annapurna Gaddepalle and Veena Kamalapalli serving as convenors from the Telugu states. 

The organising team also included Manohar Nair (Kerala), Vittal Joshi (Karnataka), Param Anand Sharma, Kalpesh Shah, Hemant Singh, and others from various states.

Speaking on the occasion, Annapurna Gadepalli said:

“In Andhra Pradesh, during the nine days of Dasara Navaratri, clay dolls are made and Goddess is invoked into them for worship. In Telangana, Bathukamma is celebrated by making floral arrangements in various forms such as Saddula Bathukamma and Engilipuvvu Bathukamma. Both traditions are deeply connected with nature, and the essence of Navaratri is to worship nature itself. What is heartening is that similar celebrations exist in different forms across other states too, and seeing everyone discuss and share these traditions has been truly joyful.”

Telangana Tourism Minister Jupally Krishna Rao remarked.

“Inviting women representatives from across 29 states to Telangana, introducing them to Bathukamma and showcasing our cultural traditions, is indeed a matter of pride. Such events enable people across the country to learn about each other’s culture and strengthen mutual ties. While these festivals often appear region-specific, a closer look reveals that similar traditions exist across India in one form or another, and it is important that we recognise and share them.”

Narasimhareddy, Director, Department of Language and Culture, Telangana, also expressed happiness over the arrangements and the success of the event.

The celebrations were further enriched by cultural performances. Around 60 Kuchipudi dancers from Srideepti Nrityalayam, Hamsa Institution, and Varalakshmi & Group captivated the delegates from across the states with their vibrant performances.
