ARA---------------------------Enlightened citizens, social workers, and journalists have been urged to play a vigilant and active role on public issues.
The situation is becoming increasingly worrisome, but unfortunately, the expected discussions and initiatives on these issues are lacking.
The condition of sub-health centers, additional health centers, government hospitals, referral hospitals, sub-divisional hospitals, and Sadar hospitals remains deplorable. Rural and poor patients suffer from a lack of basic facilities, yet there is no concrete review or accountability.
He further stated that corruption has reached its peak in block, circle, sub-divisional, police station, and district offices. The general public is forced to wander for even small tasks. The culture of bribery and recommendations is weakening the democratic system, but there is a lack of widespread public discussion and movement on this issue.
Expressing concern over the education system, he said that schools, colleges, and universities have become mere centers for filling out forms and taking exams. Serious discussion is necessary on the fundamental objectives of education—character building, morality, and knowledge development.
He also questioned the economic exploitation by private clinics and private schools, stating that the voices of the general public are not being heard. Health and education should be a means of service, not a means of exploitation.
Serious issues like obscenity and corruption are no longer becoming a topic of public debate. The courage to call out wrong is diminishing among social and political activists and respected individuals. Compromising integrity for petty gains and self-interest is not a good sign for democracy.
He urged journalists to highlight public issues impartially and fearlessly, and appealed to the conscious sections of society to speak out in favor of truth and justice. Strengthening democracy is possible only through public awareness, transparency, and morality.
