HUSBAND SENTENCED TO 7 YEARS PRISON

BHABHUA------------------------The Bhabua Civil Court in the district has delivered its verdict in a dowry death case dating back nearly 13 years. The court of ADJ-II Vinay Kumar Tiwari sentenced the husband, Arvind Kumar, to seven years of imprisonment and a fine of ₹50,000 for harassing his wife for dowry and subsequently killing her by burning. A provision has been made for an additional six months of imprisonment in the event of non-payment of the fine.

The case pertains to Bhatwaliya village under the jurisdiction of the Kudra police station. The convicted individual, Arvind Kumar—son of Hari Narayan Singh—is a resident of Bhatwaliya village, Kudra police station area, Kaimur district.

According to the prosecution, the complainant in the case, Ram Iqbal Singh (son of Suryanath Singh, resident of Taranpur village, Rajpur police station, Buxar district), had lodged an FIR at the Kudra police station. The FIR stated that his daughter, Renu Kumari, was married to Arvind Kumar on March 13, 2006, in accordance with Hindu rituals.

It was alleged that Renu Kumari was repeatedly harassed for dowry following the marriage. The FIR also mentioned a demand for a four-wheeled vehicle as dowry. According to the allegations, Renu Kumari was burnt to death on December 31, 2012, because the demanded vehicle was not provided.

Upon learning of the incident, the deceased's father went to the Kudra police station and lodged a case against four individuals, including his son-in-law, Arvind Kumar. Kudra Police Station Case No. 233/2012 was registered in this connection.

During the trial, the prosecution presented evidence and arguments. Chief Prosecution Officer Randhir Kumar Dhiraj stated that, based on the available evidence, the court found Arvind Kumar guilty and sentenced him to seven years of imprisonment and a fine of ₹50,000. A provision for an additional six months of imprisonment was also made in case of non-payment of the fine.

Private counsel Mithilesh Kumar Singh represented the deceased's side, while Advocate Ajit Singh presented arguments on behalf of the defense. It was stated that the other accused in this case had previously been released by the court. Meanwhile, after a long interval of nearly 13 years, the court's verdict regarding the husband has now been delivered.
