TEACHERS OF VKSU ARE ON MASS LEAVE

ARA------------------------In protest against the University Amendment Bill proposed by the Government of Bihar, and at the call of the Veer Kunwar Singh University Teachers' Association (VAKUTA), approximately 250 teachers from all constituent colleges of the Shahabad region took mass leave today to stage a sit-in demonstration at the university headquarters campus, vehemently opposing the proposed bill.

Addressing the gathering, teachers from various colleges, including VAKUTA General Secretary Dr. Shashi Bhushan Rai, expressed their views. The speakers unanimously stated that the bill proposed by the Bihar government would adversely affect university autonomy and destabilize the stable, healthy academic environment established over the years.

The speakers noted that CBCS and FYUP curricula, aligned with University Grants Commission (UGC) guidelines, are currently being implemented in the universities. Introducing sweeping changes to the university structure and administrative system at this juncture would not only impact academic activities but also hinder the effective implementation of the New Education Policy (NEP-2020). There are apprehensions that the proposed bill will have a detrimental impact on teachers, students, and the quality of higher education.

The teachers present at the gathering demanded that the government either immediately withdraw the proposed bill or hold extensive consultations with teachers, educationists, and other stakeholders from all state universities before implementing it.

Finally, VAKUTA made it clear that if the government ignores the teachers' legitimate concerns, the association would be compelled to further intensify its agitation through democratic and peaceful means.
