‘Ready to Go to Jail for Waving the Tricolour’: CJP Founder Abhijeet Dipke Ahead of Delhi, Mumbai Protests
New Delhi: Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) founder Abhijeet Dipke has said he is prepared to go to jail for waving the national flag ahead of the party’s proposed ‘Lehra Do Tiranga’ protests in Delhi and Mumbai. The demonstrations have been called in solidarity with jailed party leaders Ashutosh Ranka and Saurav Das.
Speaking to the media late Thursday night, Dipke claimed that Delhi Police could detain him and alleged that Intelligence Bureau personnel were keeping watch on him. He also claimed that vehicles without number plates had been following him. These allegations have not been independently verified.
“Delhi Police can detain me tonight or tomorrow morning, but we are not going to be scared by this. We will peacefully go and wave the Tiranga. If we have to go to jail to wave the Tiranga in this country, then we are ready for it,” Dipke said.
Referring to the detention of his party colleagues, Ashutosh Ranka and Saurav Das, Dipke demanded the removal of Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar and called for the appointment of a new election commissioner through an independent and impartial process. He questioned whether raising such demands amounted to a crime and said the party was not seeking a change of government.
The CJP has called for demonstrations at Central Park in Delhi’s Connaught Place and Mumbai’s Azad Maidan. Delhi Police has imposed restrictions in the Connaught Place area and appealed to people to stay away from the proposed gathering. In Mumbai, police have reportedly granted conditional permission for the protest at Azad Maidan.
The planned demonstrations have drawn attention to the party’s demands concerning the Election Commission and the detention of its leaders. Police arrangements and the implementation of restrictions are expected to remain key factors as the events unfold.
