Delhi Sees ‘Tiranga March’ Against SIR, Around 100 Protesters Detained
New Delhi: Protests against the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls and Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar continued in the national capital for the sixth consecutive day on Thursday, October 15, 2026. Members of the All India Students’ Federation (AISF) and the All India Youth Federation (AIYF) took out a ‘Tiranga March’ through Connaught Place, reiterating their demands for the withdrawal of SIR, the resignation of the Chief Election Commissioner and the restoration of Jantar Mantar as a designated protest site.

According to the youth organisations, around 100 protesters, including women, were detained during the march. However, the Delhi Police did not release an official figure confirming the number of people detained.
The march began near PVR Plaza in Block H of Connaught Place and proceeded towards Central Park amid rainfall. Protesters carried the national flag, while some also held copies of the Constitution as they raised slogans against the SIR process and demanded accountability from the Election Commission.

Police personnel stopped the march by placing barricades along the route. Several protesters were subsequently detained and taken away in police vehicles.
Kashif, one of the participants, alleged that police personnel dragged and manhandled protesters, including women, before forcing them into buses. These allegations had not been independently confirmed at the time of reporting.

The youth organisations maintained that their protest would continue until their demands were addressed, including the rollback of SIR and the restoration of Jantar Mantar as a designated venue for demonstrations.
